@SeanHawley @peteriskrisjanis Oh please. The Labor Party simply used inconsistent spelling from its foundation in 1891.
Simplified spelling was a trend in worker's politics; making reading easier for workers who missed a primary education seen as a worthwhile change. Even these days South Australia has more simplified spelling than other states (eg, Victor Harbor in SA versus Sydney Harbour in NSW).
A consistent name wasn't settled on until after WWI. Simplified spelling won out, thus Labor Party.
