So we’re all learning something about motorbike sales.
Not only did Middle Kid pay $4k for a dud motorbike, he also didn’t get a proof of sale. Also the dude probably can’t legally sell a motor vehicle to an under 18 yr old either.
Even when repaired, Kid might not be able to get it registered.
@troberts oof. People suck.

Discussing with Kid’s Mum what to do.
We may have to get the cops involved.
Me just now - “Hey [Kid], were there plates on the bike?”
Kid - “Yeah, but the guy said it was from a different bike.”
Me - *grumbles like Marge Simpson*

@SuperMoosie Thanks. We'll have to check.
It's currently at the kid's workplace, which is a car automotive workshop.

@troberts Dud person who sold them that bike needs a good kick up the arse. Maybe take kid with you and have a 'friendly' chat? Threaten cops...

Quick update...
Apparently there was doco after all (Middle Kid didn't communicate this to their mum in a timely manner). Though the person selling it was not the previous owner.
My Ex called them up, and gave them a stern talk and an opportunity to provide all the relevant information required for registration, or to return the money, or the cops will be involved.
The seller seems relatively young. We have their name, number and address. I wonder to what degree the seller has been dudded themselves.

Apparently he can't return the money because he needs it for the Navy(?)(!)

@troberts Ah, that's better.

@troberts Oh, so basically ripping off a kid for the navy is ok?
-
@sister_ratched It's all dodgy.
But the idea that someone is selling stolen motorbikes to fund their aspirations of making Admiral in the Navy makes me laugh a little.
