This is my first encounter with mutex poisoning in Rust. It's an interesting concept and I can see how it would be very helpful as a first line defense against a full abort when the state can be safely thrown away. It's nice to have the ability to make that choice.

@dave does Alpha still use the old hivewriter behind it?
The hivepinger I've just written is a whole lot simpler and set to use my own two Hive nodes + all the rest of the working API servers dynamically if for any reason both of my nodes fail.
