@dave I think the idea was that @james and some other active collaborators could help you with some merges (PR) that are not new additions to the spec or big changes; like typos, new element support on apps.json and things like that, so you have less on your plate.
For that write access it's needed. What we didn't discuss, is if we should add a minimum reviewers policy. Something like: all these things can be merged by @james (or other trusted collaborators) if there are at least 1 or 2 reviews from the others.

@dave Would you consider the hosted API itself to be a critical element of what the index is doing for the community? One could make the case that the open-source code for anyone to run it themselves is the better use of your time than maintaining a free service for people who鈥檙e never going to appreciate the v4v model.
Imagine if the API had trial-sized rate limits, then flipped into a pay-what-you-want model powered by L402/x402
