    I listen to a lot of podcasts. And some have ads. The ones that do it right, IMHO, are those who intro the show first, maybe have a clip or two about what’s coming up on the show, then segue into an ad spot in a creative way.

    What isn’t a good idea is having more than 1 had at the start before the intro. I get having one pre-roll then getting into the content, but 3 or 4 is nuts. I’d like to see the drop off of listeners when there are so many pre-rolls before the show even starts.

    Here’s my rule: 1 preroll, 1 or 2 midrolls (depending on length of the show), and a post-roll for network news or announcements.

    What do you think?

        @zipkid @phillycodehound@podcasting.chat It might be #FediDeck. The Hootsuite like ActivityPub/AT Proto program I vibe coded. I'll dig in and check.

                @phillycodehound@podcasting.chat I agree. Sponsorship spot after intro. I have no plans of doing this professionally so I won't have ada. But as long as they're topical, and not too many, absolutely.

                  @phillycodehound

                  Ad loads are increasing, for sure. @Podnews covered some of that on https://podnews.net/update/podcast-ads-concern

                  Having worked in the advertising business for 20 years before abandoning it a decade ago, I say with confidence that sophisticated ad ops teams are paying attention to many metrics, including drop rate.

                    @evoterra@podvibes.co Interesting. I just can’t imagine people sitting through 3 ads before even the intro. It’s just nuts to me. If it’s a topic I want to listen to, I’ll fast-forward, but if it’s a podcast that was recommended and this is what I get hit with? No thanks.

                      @ozoned@btfree.social Just bc it’s not your job, doesn’t mean you can’t have an ad or two which are relevant? Why not have your project pay for itself?

                        @dave Would you consider the hosted API itself to be a critical element of what the index is doing for the community? One could make the case that the open-source code for anyone to run it themselves is the better use of your time than maintaining a free service for people who’re never going to appreciate the v4v model.

                        Imagine if the API had trial-sized rate limits, then flipped into a pay-what-you-want model powered by L402/x402
