@adam Anthrophic and OpenAI have so drastically subsidized their subscriptions that even with reduced usage, you're probably still getting a killer deal.

Before this throttling, that last stat I heard was that the $200/month Claude Max plan gives up to $5,000 worth of inference (what you'd pay through OpenRouter or the direct API).

@theDanielJLewis @adam How is that 5k calculated? Do you get there if you max out every 5 hour slot 24/7?

@ville @adam It was someone who did some basic cross calculations and estimated extrapolations.

For example, if you run the prompts through OpenRouter and see the cost is $100, and you run it through a Claude subscription and see it used 2% of your limit, then you can infer that you'd get about $5,000 from Claude's subsidization.

@theDanielJLewis @adam yup, so in other words it assumes you'd use 100% of your quota, which most likely won't happen. Unless you burn tokens just to burn them 😅

I mean with the rolling 5h limit, you'd need to use the limit to 100% for each 5h slot. Doable but impractical.
So if you'd use in average 50% of the limit for each slot, you'd get value for half of the dollar number mentioned.

@dave Would you consider the hosted API itself to be a critical element of what the index is doing for the community? One could make the case that the open-source code for anyone to run it themselves is the better use of your time than maintaining a free service for people who’re never going to appreciate the v4v model.

Imagine if the API had trial-sized rate limits, then flipped into a pay-what-you-want model powered by L402/x402
