Hey folks, I want an outdoor sundial to decorate my garden, can anyone recommend a good source? I want something that is built to last and looks it, no 3D-printed plastic please. Local #Philly maker would be nice if they exist.

I already ordered this interesting prism sundial for indoors, but production has apparently been delayed by unusually cold temps and excessive snow, interfering with the maker's workshop. I'm hopeful that it will eventually arrive: https://www.artisanindustrials.com/spectramain.html

@skyfaller there's a patio furniture place in Chestnut Hill that might have such things. local production seems like a high bar for such a niche product.

@skyfaller you might have better luck looking for a vintage one, that would have no production cost. Etsy has a number. I like this one!

@acm_redfox This guy custom makes them in the Netherlands @Hendrik
          https://www.zonnewijzer.nl/

If I move to the Netherlands maybe I'll look him up. Until then I'll be jealous of the buildings he provided with custom sundials turning them into solar art.

@acm_redfox My understanding is that horizontal sundials must be customized for your latitude, so for used sundials I think I would either need one produced for the same latitude, or I would need to modify it?

@gemlog @acm_redfox Hmm, seems like a cool list of sundial artisans in the UK, now are there any in North America? I'm not opposed to ordering from the UK or the Netherlands, I just prefer to support locals and minimize shipping when possible. (And now, avoid any tariff fuckery.)

And thank you for that article on "Choosing a sundial", it seems to suggest that any mass-produced sundials are going to target some random latitude and will likely not be accurate at my location.

All dials are location specific, but some are adjustable. I really don't know much about this topic, but it's fun! 🙂

@gemlog @acm_redfox ok here's the relevant list for North America I guess, I've been to this page before but forgot: https://sundials.org/index.php/dial-links/sundial-artisans

I fear many of these makers are out of my price range, but I'll explore
