This has to be the longest shot ever, but:
β· Anybody here using "Paint Shop Pro 7" (yes, that one! π§‘) under Linux via Wine?
Runs almost perfectly, but there is this bug:
β· Right-clicking on a layer opens up two overlapping context menus, and the lower one (the one you would want) is not accessible.

Any idea how to fix this? π₯Ί
I'd be incredibly grateful for any tips or boosts!

@duke_of_germany oh that's weird, that may be a regression, I have PSP7 and while I haven't used it in years it was my go-to for a LONG time under wine (even pre 1.0 it worked great). What WINE version are you using? could try rolling back to an earlier version (8.0.2 is readily available on most distros and lutris/bottles still, as well as the 7.0 line but you could also try going back to 4.0 or 5.0, can still pull the official releases)

I am currently using wine-9.0. I will try downgrading, that's a good idea!
I just quickly tried Bottles, but could not get anything running at all with it (using runner "wine-ge-proton8-27-lol", just to try one out), but I probably just don't know what I am doing.
So I will try to figure out how to properly install an older Wine version under Linux Mint and see if this makes things better!

Ok, I figured out how to properly install the older Wine versions.
I was not able to go back as far as 7.0 (because of an uninstallable dependency "ldap-2.5.0"), but I was able to go back to 8.0.1, and for good measure, also tried 9.0, 10.0 and 11.0. Unfortunately, they all show the same behavior. π₯Ί
(Will have a look at Lutris / Bottles then. If you later can think of anything else, I'd be glad to know!)
Thank you for your reply! And it is always good to find other PSP7 users!

It does!! 𧑠Isnβt this awesome? And you could just use it right now! (under modern Windows without any extra steps, under Linux via Wine)
So you also used it in the past?

Ok, by downloading precompiled versions of Wine, I was able to go back to 5.22. But the first version that allowed me to run both the installer and PSP7 itself was 7.0, and it already had the bug. π₯²

@duke_of_germany @raptor85 You should be able to install the app under one wine version, and then reuse the same prefix (aka bottle) to run it with an older wine version.

@duke_of_germany @raptor85 Also, sometimes it can help to enable wineβs βvirtual desktop windowβ mode, in case itβs some interaction with your desktop or window manager thatβs the problem. Enabled through winecfg.

@duke_of_germany a little, I also remember there used to be an Animation Shop Pro.
Man, that was far too many years ago
