#Tor 0.4.9.5 is out and is the first release in the Tor 0.4.9-series marked as stable. Happy Families and CGO are the two major features in this series.
We hope to see the relay operator community upgrade their nodes and deploy Happy Families in the near future!

I've been thinking a lot about #ActivityIntents and how to make it easy for people to find and join the #SocialWeb
Here's some ultra-low-effort drawings of the process I'm imagining. (criticism and refinements welcome)
1. embeddable widgets (follow, like, share, etc) for any site
2. pre-populate search fields to recommend a single server (with overrides)
3. pass extra data to that server on signup so the intent is honored
4. recommend additional accounts based on context
Yes?

@julian Sorry, I didn't answer one of your questions3b86 is very helpful, esp. for less common activities such as "Like" - so it would be great to get that metadata into WebFinger at a minimum. But for simple "Follow" activities, we can also guess common endpoints by sniffing your server type. It's messy, but it'll work until we have better adoption. That's what I'm doing server-side in #Emissary, and I believe @dansup is planning something similar for #WebIntents. -
I think it's still worth raising a stink about XSLT being removed from browsers.
Essentially breaks how 500,000+ podcasters rely on their RSS feeds to work (be viewable in browser).
Made a video here:
https://youtu.be/KLXgUcicFRs(I'll try to write a blog post tomorrow)
read more →@transistor I don’t know how bluntly I can say this - you’re too late. Only 10% of podcasts support XSLT. It’s going away. We’ve lost this one. It is a waste of your time and your boundless energy trying to fight it. Please stop! Let’s do something constructive instead. Let’s fix this UX issue - that people click on RSS feeds when we give them a big link marked “RSS feed” - with clear signposting about how to use an RSS feed and what it’s for (and a suggested user journey if they do click on one). Let’s work on wording that listeners understand for the CSS “error message”. Let’s see if we can get user testing through the PSP, to get some science behind it; and formulate some guidelines for the industry on how to handle this properly. You’ve highlighted a problem. Let’s fix it constructively - with science! -

This is a picture from the Wyze Cam that’s placed outside my door. As you can see, it points at my door, not the walkway up to the door.
When a person is detected, a 12-second video is uploaded to the cloud. Recordings are deleted after 14 days.
Now, I *think* this is fine. It’s not Ring. I’m unaware of any agreements Wyze has with data brokers or law enforcement. And I’m not recording anything other than my front door.
Am I right? Or AITA?

Imagine sharing a link to your fediverse account to someone not on the fediverse, hoping they follow you.
Now imagine instead that the link you share takes them to a beautiful yet simple landing page that carefully guides them to the ideal platform, geographically closest, and helps them through the onboarding process, recommends the best desktop/mobile client and then follows you from their new account.
Stop dreaming. I'm building this. Wanna help?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@taylorlorenz/116025421547573109
The #Fediverse, and #Mastodon in particular, showcases what social media can be when designed for democratic dialogue rather than profit.
It’s open source, so its rules and algorithms are transparent and accountable.
No single company owns it, so no billionaire can unilaterally shape speech.
It’s also interoperable, meaning people can move freely instead of being trapped in walled gardens.
Because it doesn't depend on outrage for ad revenue, it fosters healthier, more civil conversations.
