        @GossiTheDog wait, why would anyone “sext” with a service that is basically the worst parts of facebook and google combined and ^3? And, I know I’m missing the broader point and the rest of the outrage, I’m just… why? Unless your kink IS for Sam Altman, the add networks, and all the agencies and hackers around the world to know your kninks…

          @GossiTheDog @NatureMC Exactly.

          I made a point about leasing because it means they actively collaborated with the Nazis. It also meant they could have ended the support at any point

                    @GossiTheDog in a country so litigious as the US how is it that employees have absolutely no protections whatsoever?

                      Yuck.
                      But also... lie down with dogs, get up with fleas. OpenAI has been a moral cesspit for long enough that anyone with a conscience has had time enough to see that they can't reform it from within, and head for the exits.

                        @js @dave The business model means it won’t be open. You send Apple the m3u8 playlist (only) through the existing subscription API. That way, Apple knows who to bill for the dynamic ads, which they will charge for.

                        Without any mechanism of billing, I see it as unlikely that it will be open to self-hosting podcasters.

                        @dave @js Apple basically released its podcasting apparatus in the last millennium. The company is fundamentally different in 2026. It has released premium gated podcasts that are thoroughly closed. It’s releasing this, which is thoroughly closed. It’s two things already. The vestigial organ has one mission: make us new services revenue.

                        Ok, reading the public text closely, you can see that Apple is not hosting the HLS video, but relying on the (partner) hosting company to do that. Apple just takes part in the monetization. The hosting company will determine supported video formats/features
